This week’s class demo was a winter finch (likely a Pine Grosbeak).
We kept the background loose with watercolor and then layered colored pencil for the bird and branch. I love this combination — watercolor sets the mood, and colored pencil lets you slow down and build the details.
It’s always fun to see how surprised people are when pencil starts to feel like paint.
