A newborn fawn stole my heart–and my painting table. My son grabbed this shot of her wobbling down our walkway, her tiny legs barely holding her up. Later that night, she somehow ended up in our garage, curled between two gas cans, quietly calling for her mama. In the morning we opened the doors and the mother came running. The baby stumbled out and began nursing right away–the sweetest reunion. That fragile, beautiful moment is what I’m painting into my latest watercolor–still in progress, but full of heart. I painted this little pumpkin piece to celebrate the season, but as a pet portrait artist (and wife to a veterinarian), I can’t help but think to keep our furry friends safe, too. 👻 keep candy out of paws reach, especially chocolate and anything containing xylitol. 👽 make sure collars and microchips are up to date. 🕯️ watch those candles. 👹 If your pet wears a costume, keep it comfy and safe. 💥 And give shy pets a quiet retreat from all the excitement.
